Where Did You Get That Hat?

Borsalino Braid Fedora - The MazziniProbably the best and most sincere compliment you can get about any hat–new or old–is the question: Where did you get that hat?

It’s a question tinged with envy, unlike the rather bland “I like your hat” statement. There’s an emphasis on the word “hat” in the question, and usually the admirer’s eyes are locked onto your lid. For a moment (or longer), you are of simply no import: a mannequin at best. It’s the hat that matters.

In fact, the Where did you get that hat? question is right up there in terms of laudatory remarks with the well-known saying “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,” because the logical next step for your admirer (once you provide the vendor information), is for that person to procure the same hat for himself.

The next time someone asks you where you got your hat, accept the compliment for what it is: the highest praise that person can give.

Every Day is Customer Appreciation Day!

Makins Special Order Hat MS1133 - Bleach Panama Fedora at HartfordYork.com Every day is customer appreciation day at Hartford York. That pretty much means that all of us here at Hartford York treat customers the way we ourselves would like to be treated.

After all, without the customer, we’re nothing! So it’s my daily goal to be as helpful as possible — whether by answering customer questions, giving advice or through hands-on problem solving.

That’s just good business practice you say — and you’re right. It is. But outstanding service has also become somewhat rare these days, and that’s one reason I’ve got a whole page at Hartford York dedicated to customer testimonials.

It’s hard for customers to know what kind of company they’re dealing with (especially when it’s an online business). By reading the experiences of other customers who have had problems solved or are impressed with speed of response, fast shipping or no-hassle exchanges and returns, potential customers can establish a level of trust enough to make that initial leap of faith and first purchase.

Here’s a real-life example of how I operate. When George T. wanted to buy several expensive Makins Special Order hats, I suggested that we start with just one to make sure he liked it and that it fit. George agreed. Once he knew how much he liked the first hat, we then proceeded on to the others that he wanted.

George wrote a review of his Hartford York shopping experience, saying:

I purchased a few Makins Special Order hats from their fall and winter selection. As expected, these hats are exceptional in both fit and finish and I am more than satisfied with them all.

But I want to give a shout out to Hartford York’s CEO, the honorable Mr. Steve Singer. The day after placing my order, I received an email from Mr. Singer expressing his appreciation for my purchase and offering some expert advice on how to proceed more sagaciously.

Well, his personal care was extraordinary, needed and appreciated. Helped me avoid few possible purchasing problems. All this from the President and CEO. Thank you, Steve. Will certainly be making many more purchases through Hartford York.

Thank you for the kind words, George.

Just doing my job.
