Just a Rake in a Hat

Hartford York Hats and Accessories for Men and Women - Men's Stetson Wool Bucket Hat - The Professor Bucket HatBack from a meeting of my local Dull Men’s Club (DMC), started after I stumbled across their wonderful site where those born to mild celebrate the ordinary and whose members (who obviously don’t get out much) say no matter where you go, there you are.

Yup. We chatted a bit about promoting dull events in October (known by the way as Leaf Raking Month) but are at a loss to explain why the month–when we unashamedly chow down on Halloween treats–should also be designated National Dental Hygiene Month.

Is that a none-too-subtle attempt by the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) to impose guilt on one nation’s psyche? If a marketing ploy, why not choose November, when our sugar-coated teeth are starting to rot a little?

Well, the long and short of it is that our bitty branch of the DMC got all riled up about the nefarious goings-on by those in the ADHA, and we’ve decided to boycott October.

Except for the leaf raking. You’ll still find me on crisp, autumn days, leaning ever so lightly on my shiny Wilkinson Sword Extra rake (looking quite striking I might add in my corduroy Stetson), as I await the arrival of the entreprenurial kid next door.
