Fishin’ Chix in Hats

Did you know there’s a Martha Stewart of fishing, ‘without the whole prison thing’ whose mission is to “expose more women to what she calls ‘Armani-style fishing’”? A Vancouver Sun reporter says the founder of the upscale Pensacola Bay Fishin’ Chix club, Claudia Espenscheid, started fishing as a stress-reliever after Hurricane Ivan hit her Florida home in October 2004.

The article goes on to say that the American Sportfishing Association estimates nearly one third of recreational fishing in the United States is done by women—that’s a lot of ladies who want to (in Espenscheid’s words) look cute while angling in their straw hats, pink rubber boots and matching neon lures.

Wonder if they’d let me join—-sort of a mascot thing? (I’ve always been partial to pink, you know…)

Thanks for fishing,
Steve Singer
