Most people do have a style category, you know, even if they don’t realize it. Unconsciously or otherwise, many of us pretty much stick to a general style of dress: western, haute, old school or trucker. We vary within the genre, of course–casual and dress western become two different looks–but the overall cast is there.
Winter hats allow a bit more leeway to this rule because of the double function they fill: fashion and warmth. In other words, if it’s just too cold for the preferred fur felt cowboy hat, the look (and feel) of a shearling winter cap makes a pretty acceptable substitute.
